Israeli Forces Launch New Airstrike on Beirut’s Southern Suburbs

Strike Hits Harat Hreik Neighborhood

BEIRUT — Israeli forces carried out an overnight airstrike on Sunday targeting the Harat Hreik area in the southern suburbs of Beirut, according to Anadolu news. The attack sparked a fire near the targeted building, though no immediate information on casualties has emerged.

Israel Targets Hezbollah Infrastructure

Lieutenant Colonel Ella Waweya, the Israeli army’s Arabic-language spokesperson, posted on Elon Musk’s platform X, stating that the military strike aimed at Hezbollah facilities in Beirut. Earlier, army spokesman Avichay Adraee warned residents of the southern suburbs to evacuate, emphasizing the operation’s focus on Hezbollah members and their infrastructure.

Regional Tensions Escalate

The attack comes amid heightened tensions following joint strikes by Israel and the United States on Iran on Feb. 28, which killed around 1,300 people, including former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as military positions in Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US forces.

Conflict Spills Over Into Lebanon

The ongoing conflict has expanded to Lebanon, where clashes between the Israeli army and Hezbollah have killed more than 800 people and injured over 2,000 since March 2. Analysts warn that cross-border tensions continue to escalate, with southern Beirut increasingly affected by military operations.
