Bangladesh Jet Crash Kills 27 Including Dozens of Children

A tragic air force jet crash in southern Bangladesh has killed at least 27 people, most of them young children, according to local officials. The crash, which occurred near a residential area and a school zone, has sparked national mourning and urgent investigations.
Moreover, health officials report that 88 burn victims are currently receiving emergency treatment in overwhelmed hospitals. Many of the injured remain in critical condition, with severe burns caused by the explosion and fire that followed the crash.
“This is one of the deadliest air incidents involving civilians in recent years,” said a senior health ministry official. “Most of the victims are children who were playing or attending nearby classes.”
The jet, part of a routine training exercise, reportedly experienced a catastrophic engine failure before spiraling into a densely populated area. Eyewitnesses described a massive fireball, followed by screams and chaos.
Furthermore, local rescue teams, firefighters, and army personnel rushed to the site within minutes. They managed to pull survivors from the debris, though many were severely burned.
“I saw flames everywhere. Children were crying. It was like a nightmare,” said a local resident who witnessed the crash.
Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation into the cause of the crash. Initial reports suggest a technical malfunction, but officials have not ruled out other possibilities.
In addition, hospitals across the region are urgently calling for blood donations and medical supplies to treat the influx of burn patients.
International humanitarian organizations have offered assistance as the country reels from the impact of the tragedy.
Finally, the Bangladeshi government has declared a day of mourning, and President Mohammed Shahab Uddin has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life, especially the children.
