A team from Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrived at the official residence of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister on Thursday, reportedly to arrest Bushra Bibi in connection with an ongoing corruption investigation. The NAB team, traveling in two vehicles, was seen conducting procedures related to her potential arrest, as they are investigating the £190 million corruption case, which allegedly involves her and others. Reports indicate that arrest warrants have already been issued for Bushra Bibi, and decisions regarding her arrest will be made following internal consultations within the NAB team.
The case under investigation concerns funds transferred by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the Pakistani government. The funds, amounting to approximately Rs 50 billion (roughly £190 million), were handled under an agreement that was approved by Imran Khan’s cabinet on December 3, 2019. However, the agreement’s confidential details were not disclosed at the time. The arrangement included stipulations that the funds be deposited with the Supreme Court. NAB officials allege that Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, received valuable land as part of this deal, which was intended for the construction of an educational institute.
During their visit to the CM House, the NAB team is expected to complete the formalities required for their investigation and potential actions related to Bushra Bibi’s arrest. The ongoing investigation continues to draw attention due to the high-profile nature of the figures involved, and the case’s ties to significant financial transactions and allegations of corruption.
