NASA Administrator Bill Nelson delivered heartfelt remarks at Wednesday’s Hidden Figures Congressional Gold Medal ceremony in Washington, honoring the trailblazing women who contributed to the success of NASA’s space missions. Among those recognized were mathematicians Mary Jackson, Dr. Christine Darden, Dorothy Vaughan, and Katherine Johnson, whose work was pivotal in landing the first astronauts on the Moon during the Apollo Program.
Nelson acknowledged the efforts of Congress, particularly the late Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson and several Senators, for bringing the recognition to life. He emphasized that the honorees not only helped humanity reach the Moon but also paved the way for future generations of space explorers.
Highlighting Andrea Mosie, a NASA employee of nearly 50 years who oversees the Apollo sample program, Nelson underscored the lasting impact of these women’s contributions. As NASA continues its space exploration, including planned missions to Mars, the legacy of these “Hidden Figures” will inspire future endeavors.–News Desk
