NATO Establishes Ukraine Support Command in Germany

NATO has officially launched its new command center for supporting Ukraine in Germany, marking a significant step in bolstering the country’s defense capabilities. Located in Wiesbaden, the NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU) will now oversee critical operations previously managed by the U.S. and international groups.

General Christopher G. Cavoli, NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, hailed the opening as a pivotal moment for both Ukraine and the alliance. With 700 personnel from across NATO member states, the command will coordinate weapons deliveries, training programs, and military equipment repairs for Ukrainian forces. This move takes over from the U.S.-led Security Assistance Group-Ukraine, which has been assisting Ukraine since the conflict with Russia began in 2022.

The establishment of NSATU, approved during the NATO summit in Washington this past July, underscores the alliance’s commitment to strengthening Ukraine’s military and aligning it with NATO standards. The new command aims to ensure the effective transfer of military resources, providing Ukraine with the tools needed to enhance its defense while fortifying NATO’s position for the security of 1 billion people across Europe and North America.
