WASHINGTON, July 8, 2025:
Former US President Donald Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a White House meeting amid ongoing ceasefire talks and controversial relocation plans for Palestinians in Gaza.
Netanyahu handed Trump a nomination letter and praised US efforts to support regional peace. Trump expressed gratitude and highlighted cooperation with neighboring countries regarding Gaza’s future.
The talks focused on a plan to offer Gaza’s residents the option to relocate, with Netanyahu stating that Palestinians willing to leave should be allowed to do so. “We’re working with several countries to provide a better future for Palestinians,” Netanyahu said.
Trump indicated that surrounding nations were cooperating and voiced optimism, saying, “Something good will happen.” Earlier, he suggested turning Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East”—a plan widely criticized by Palestinians and human rights organizations as a form of ethnic cleansing.
Critics have rejected the relocation proposal, asserting the right of Palestinians to remain in their homeland. Despite the backlash, the Trump-Netanyahu meeting signals renewed efforts for a regional shift in handling the Gaza crisis.
