Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met German Foreign Minister Johan Wadephul on Thursday evening in Jerusalem. The high-level diplomatic engagement took place amid rising Middle East tensions and global security concerns.
Held at the Foreign Office, the meeting aimed to strengthen Israel-Germany ties and stress the importance of close cooperation during turbulent regional developments.
According to sources familiar with the meeting, discussions focused on urgent regional issues. These included Iran’s strategic threat, escalating violence in Gaza, and instability along Israel’s northern border. Human rights and the development of economic relations between Berlin and Jerusalem also featured in the talks.
Foreign Minister Wadephul, known for his steady yet firm diplomacy, reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to Israel’s right to self-defense. At the same time, he called for restraint and urged regional leaders to uphold democratic values, especially amid growing unrest.
Netanyahu emphasized the need for stronger European involvement in countering Iran’s influence and fighting terrorism in the region.
While the two sides did not issue a formal joint statement, officials described the meeting as productive and forward-looking. The dialogue reaffirmed Germany’s key role in Middle East diplomacy, especially during this period of strain on international alliances.
