US, Indonesia Launch Defense Partnership to Boost Indo-Pacific Security

New Agreement Strengthens Military Cooperation

The United States and Indonesia announced a major defense cooperation partnership on Monday, aiming to expand military ties and support stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

In a joint statement, both governments said the agreement builds on decades of cooperation and reflects their shared commitment to peace, security, and respect for national sovereignty.

Focus on Shared Strategic Goals

Officials from both countries emphasized that the partnership is based on mutual respect and common interests. They also confirmed their intention to work together to maintain regional peace and stability.

Furthermore, the agreement outlines three main areas of cooperation. These include military modernization and capacity building, professional training and education, and increased joint exercises and operational coordination.

High-Level Talks at the Pentagon

Earlier the same day, Pete Hegseth met with Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin at the Pentagon to discuss ways to strengthen defense relations.

Following the meeting, officials highlighted that the partnership will improve coordination between the two forces. It will also support defense development and increase joint training efforts.

Framework for Long-Term Collaboration

According to officials, this new framework will help both countries improve operational cooperation and strengthen military readiness. As a result, the partnership is expected to play a key role in maintaining security across the Indo-Pacific region.
