Normalcy has gradually returned to Islamabad and parts of Punjab after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protesters ended their demonstrations, which had disrupted daily life for several days. The protests, which began on November 24, 2024, involved violent clashes between PTI supporters and law enforcement in key cities, notably Islamabad and across Punjab.
The protests paralyzed major roads, with mobile and internet services suspended in certain areas, creating significant hardships for residents. Police responded with tear gas and rubber bullets, especially in areas like Faizabad and D Chowk, where protesters clashed with law enforcement. In total, over 400 individuals were arrested during the protests, and law enforcement recovered weapons and other materials from the demonstrators. Security forces, including the army, were deployed to help restore order.
While tensions remained high, PTI announced the end of the protests, citing the intense government crackdown and a reassessment of their strategy. The protests had also spread across Punjab, with violent clashes in cities like Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and Sialkot, where hundreds more were detained. By the evening of November 27, authorities had managed to regain control, and most areas, including key protest hotspots, saw a reduction in unrest.
The end of these protests marks a temporary return to normalcy, although the political situation remains tense. PTI’s leadership indicated that future actions would be planned carefully, following the intense clashes and arrests across the country.
