Danny Murphy Named to Order of Canada

Order of Canada Recognizes Danny Murphy

CHARLOTTETOWN: Prince Edward Island entrepreneur Danny Murphy has been appointed to the Order of Canada, one of the country’s highest civilian honours, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to business, philanthropy, and community development.

Murphy, founder of the D.P. Murphy Group of Companies, is the only recipient from Prince Edward Island among this year’s 56 new appointments to the prestigious national honour.

He launched the D.P. Murphy Group in 1980 with the opening of two Tim Hortons restaurants. Over the decades, the company has grown into one of Atlantic Canada’s leading hospitality businesses, operating a diverse portfolio of well-known restaurant, hotel, and tourism brands.

The official citation praised Murphy for transforming his company into a major hospitality enterprise while creating jobs, supporting regional tourism, and contributing significantly to economic growth across Atlantic Canada.

Beyond his business achievements, Murphy was recognized for his longstanding commitment to philanthropy. His charitable efforts have strengthened disability support services, helped revitalize Oak Acres Children’s Camp, and provided assistance to healthcare and Alzheimer’s initiatives throughout the Maritime provinces.

The Order of Canada recognizes Canadians whose exceptional achievements and service have made a lasting impact on the nation. Murphy will join the other newly appointed members at a future investiture ceremony, where they will officially receive the insignia of the Order.

His appointment highlights both his entrepreneurial success and his dedication to improving communities across Prince Edward Island and the broader Atlantic region.
