Pakistan has said it expects a potential agreement between the United States and Iran to be reached soon, although officials did not provide a specific timeline.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi told reporters in Islamabad that Pakistan would welcome any settlement between Washington and Tehran, regardless of where it is finalized. He added that if such an agreement were concluded in Pakistan, it would be considered an honor for the country.
However, Andrabi declined to confirm details regarding the reported draft understanding, following media reports suggesting that the two sides are close to finalizing a brief memorandum of understanding.
Pakistani officials earlier indicated that Islamabad may host a second round of stalled US Iran talks aimed at ending ongoing hostilities. According to government sources, the country is preparing to facilitate renewed negotiations in the coming week.
The sources also suggested that Pakistan expects an initial framework agreement between the US and Iran to be reached before the upcoming visit of Donald Trump to China later this month.
Pakistan previously hosted the first round of talks between Washington and Tehran on April 11 and 12, although those discussions did not result in a final deal.
Those negotiations followed a two-week ceasefire arrangement brokered by Pakistan on April 8, which was later extended by Trump. Islamabad continues to position itself as a facilitator in efforts to reduce tensions between the two countries.
