Pentagon Leader Supports Medical Standards Review
Jules W. Hurst III, currently serving as the Acting Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, issued a statement endorsing the Defense Secretary’s directive to review medical disqualifications for military service.

The memorandum, signed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, calls for a 30-day review of conditions currently eligible for waivers — including serious illnesses such as schizophrenia and chronic heart failure. Hurst highlighted the necessity of ensuring that only fully qualified individuals are admitted into service.
