Vatican City – In a heartwarming surprise, Pope Francis made a public appearance in Saint Peter’s Square, greeting the crowd and blessing those gathered after mass dedicated to the sick. The 88-year-old pontiff, who was wheeled through the square in a wheelchair, addressed the crowd, saying, “A good Sunday to all. Thank you very much,” despite his fragile voice.
The Pope, who was surrounded by onlookers holding smartphones and cameras, appeared with nasal breathing tubes, but his speech was noticeably clearer than during his departure from Gemelli hospital on March 23. This marked his first public outing since February 14.
Although Pope Francis has been undergoing two months of convalescence following a serious health scare, with strict instructions for rest and no public engagements, his appearance Sunday morning was seen as an encouraging sign of his recovery. With Easter just two weeks away, his return to public life offers hope for his continued improvement.
