Russia Considers Frozen Assets to Join Trump’s Board of Peace

Putin Eyes $1B Payment for Russia’s Gaza Board of Peace Membership

Putin Says Russia May Pay $1B for Membership in Trump’s Gaza Board of Peace

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that Moscow could contribute $1 billion from frozen assets to secure permanent membership in the new “Board of Peace,” an international body proposed by US President Donald Trump.

Speaking at a Russian Security Council meeting in Moscow, Putin said he had instructed the Russian Foreign Ministry to examine the proposal and coordinate Russia’s position with international partners.

Russia Considers Payment from Frozen Assets

“We could send 1 billion US dollars from Russian assets frozen under the previous US administration to the Board of Peace,” Putin said. He added that Moscow would carefully review the conditions for joining the body.

Background on the Board of Peace

The White House announced the formation of the Board of Peace last week, alongside the creation of a National Committee for the Administration of Gaza. The committee is one of four bodies tasked with overseeing the transitional phase in Gaza.

World leaders invited to join the board said membership will be free for the first three years. Permanent membership thereafter requires a $1 billion payment.

Context of the Gaza Ceasefire

The board’s establishment coincides with the launch of phase two of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, which ended the recent war in the enclave. Since October 2023, the conflict in Gaza has resulted in over 71,000 deaths and more than 171,000 injuries.
