Russia emphasized the importance of implementing the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, following reports from Beirut of more than 120 violations since the deal began last week. In response to questions about violations by Israeli forces, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that the rapidly changing situation in the region made it inappropriate to comment on the current state of the agreement. However, she expressed hope that the ceasefire would succeed, acknowledging the difficulty of translating an agreement into action.
Zakharova reiterated Russia’s support for the ceasefire and its hope for successful implementation. Under the agreement, Israel is to withdraw its forces from south of the Blue Line, while the Lebanese army is to deploy forces in southern Lebanon within 60 days.
Since the ceasefire came into effect, Beirut has reported over 120 violations, and Israeli attacks have resulted in at least 14 deaths and 13 injuries. The US and France are overseeing the agreement, though enforcement details remain unclear. Since October 2023, Israeli attacks in Lebanon have killed over 4,000 people, injured more than 16,500, and displaced over 1 million individuals.
