China has urged the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to take a stronger role in promoting peace and stability across the Middle East amid rising regional tensions.
Speaking at a SCO meeting in Tianjin, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on member states to reinforce coordination and support diplomatic and political solutions to ongoing conflicts.
According to Chinese state media, Wang emphasized that SCO countries should remain committed to regional security and contribute to efforts aimed at reducing instability in the Middle East. He highlighted the importance of collective action in addressing geopolitical challenges and safeguarding international fairness and justice.
Wang also reaffirmed the significance of the “Shanghai Spirit,” which is based on mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, and respect for cultural diversity. He urged stronger cooperation among member states on both regional and global issues.
The remarks reflect China’s growing diplomatic engagement in Middle East affairs, where Beijing has consistently advocated dialogue, ceasefires, and negotiated settlements to resolve conflicts.
Founded in 2001, the SCO is a major regional organization that includes 10 member states such as China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Iran, Belarus, and several Central Asian countries, representing a significant portion of the world’s population.
