Tanker Hit by Projectile Near Dubai, Probe Launched
A commercial tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile near Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, prompting an official investigation, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
Fire Reported but Crew Safe
The incident occurred about 31 nautical miles northwest of Dubai. According to UKMTO, the vessel’s security officer reported that the projectile hit the ship’s starboard side, causing a fire onboard.
However, authorities confirmed that all crew members remain safe and accounted for. In addition, officials reported no environmental damage following the incident.
Investigation Underway
UKMTO has launched an investigation to determine the source and nature of the attack. Officials have not yet identified who was responsible.
Rising Regional Tensions
The incident comes amid heightened tensions across the Middle East. The situation escalated after the United States and Israel carried out a large-scale strike on Iran on February 28.
Reports indicate that more than 1,340 people were killed in the attacks, including Ali Khamenei.
Retaliation Raises Security Concerns
In response, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf states hosting US military facilities.
As a result, maritime security concerns have increased, particularly along key global shipping routes.
