US President Donald Trump has announced that Israel and Lebanon will implement a 10-day ceasefire beginning at 2100 GMT on Thursday, following diplomatic engagements in Washington.
In a statement, Trump said he held productive discussions with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to him, both leaders agreed to initiate the temporary truce as part of broader efforts to stabilize the situation and move toward long-term peace.
The development comes after US-facilitated talks between Lebanese and Israeli representatives at the State Department earlier this week. Hezbollah was not involved in the discussions and has dismissed the initiative.
Trump further stated that he has tasked senior US officials, including Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Joint Chiefs Chairman Dan Caine, with advancing negotiations aimed at achieving a durable resolution.
Highlighting his diplomatic record, Trump claimed the ceasefire would mark the tenth global conflict he has helped resolve.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam welcomed the agreement, calling it a key national objective since the onset of hostilities. He described the outcome as a significant step forward achieved during the Washington talks.
In a message shared on X, Salam extended condolences to those affected by the conflict, including victims, the injured, and displaced civilians. He also acknowledged the role of international and regional partners, particularly the United States, France, the European Union, and several Arab nations such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, and Jordan, in facilitating the ceasefire.
