US President Donald Trump said Monday that companies are moving their operations back to the United States from Canada to avoid tariffs, while again criticizing the trade relationship between the two countries.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that the US has been losing more than $60 billion annually in trade with Canada. He questioned why the imbalance had continued for so many years.
Trump also argued that businesses that had previously shifted their operations away from the US are now returning because of the tariffs. He described the companies as coming back to America to avoid additional tariff costs.
The president said businesses were increasingly choosing to operate in the US, suggesting that the trend reflects the impact of his administration’s trade policies.
His comments come as tariffs and efforts to reshape US trade relations with other countries remain central to the administration’s economic strategy.
