US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that American officials held a three-hour meeting with an Iranian delegation in New York, describing the discussions as highly productive.
Speaking to reporters ahead of his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Trump confirmed that the talks had ended about an hour earlier. He said the meeting had gone very well and suggested that further discussions would take place soon.
Trump presented Iran with what he described as two possible paths, saying the country could either face severe consequences or pursue an opportunity for greater prosperity and development.
When asked about the participants, Trump referred reporters to US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who were involved in the discussions.
Trump later said the meeting had been productive and confirmed that another round of talks was scheduled for the near future.
Witkoff also expressed satisfaction with the discussions, saying he felt very positive about the situation and his work with Trump.
According to Iranian officials cited by The New York Times, the Iranian delegation was led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
The report said Pakistan and Qatar helped mediate the meeting, while sources indicated that the discussions focused on efforts to reach an agreement between Washington and Tehran.
