
During a meeting at the Pentagon, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III reaffirmed America’s commitment to the security of Iraq and the broader region. Austin praised the enduring partnership with Iraq, particularly highlighting the decade-long efforts of the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh, which have significantly weakened but not eradicated the terrorist group. The discussions, which also included plans for future security cooperation and military transitions, underscored the U.S.’s support for Iraq’s sovereignty and stability. Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani expressed his gratitude for the continuous international support against terrorism and the progress in military collaborations under the Strategic Framework Agreement.
