UN Expert Condemns India’s Reported Expulsion of Rohingya Refugees

UN Special Rapporteur on Myanmar, Tom Andrews, has strongly criticized India’s reported expulsion of Rohingya refugees, calling the action “outrageous” and a violation of international human rights obligations.

Andrews urged the Indian government to immediately halt any forced deportations and to uphold the principles of refugee protection. “India must repudiate these unconscionable acts and honor its commitment to human dignity and international law,” he said in a statement.

The reported expulsions come amid ongoing concerns about the safety and treatment of the Rohingya, a persecuted ethnic minority who fled violence in Myanmar.

The UN continues to call for international solidarity in protecting vulnerable refugee populations and ensuring safe, voluntary, and dignified returns.
