UN Urges Civilian Protection Amid Middle East Strikes

UN Prepares Humanitarian Response as Conflict Escalates

UN Relief Chief Calls for Civilian Protection Amid Middle East Strikes

The United Nations’ top humanitarian official urged all parties to protect civilians as military strikes intensify across the Middle East.

Tom Fletcher, the UN’s relief chief, said Saturday that humanitarian teams remain on alert and stand ready to respond quickly to the impact of the attacks.

In a post on the social media platform X, Fletcher stated that he remains in close contact with aid teams across the region. He added that they are prepared to address humanitarian needs swiftly and effectively. Emphasizing the urgency of the situation, he wrote that civilians must be protected.

Escalating Military Confrontation

Meanwhile, the United States and Israel launched a large-scale military operation against Iran on Saturday.

U.S. President Donald Trump said the strikes aim to weaken Tehran’s military capabilities and eliminate what Washington describes as a nuclear threat. He also called on the Iranian public to take control of their government after the operation ends.

In response, Iran launched drones and missiles toward Israel. In addition, Iranian forces struck U.S. military facilities in Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar.

As hostilities continue, humanitarian agencies closely monitor the situation and prepare for possible civilian displacement and emergency needs.
