UNRWA Gaza Aid Only 10 Percent Daily Needs

Lazzarini Urges Immediate Action as Gaza Faces Starvation Crisis

UNRWA Chief Slams Gaza Aid Efforts as ‘Mockery’ Amid Worsening Humanitarian Crisis

ISTANBUL:
The head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has harshly criticised the scale of humanitarian aid reaching Gaza, calling it a “mockery” of the dire conditions facing civilians in the war-torn enclave.

UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said that only 900 aid trucks had entered Gaza in the last two weeks—barely 10% of what is required daily to meet the basic needs of the population.

“The trickle of aid reaching Gaza mocks the massive tragedy unfolding under our watch,” Lazzarini posted on X, warning that starvation and relentless bombardments continue to devastate the population.

He stressed that during the previous ceasefire, up to 800 trucks were allowed in daily, preventing famine. “We are not asking for the impossible,” Lazzarini said. “Let the UN and our partners deliver aid and uphold human dignity.”

Lazzarini urged world leaders to act with urgency, stressing that the ongoing starvation crisis could be halted with sufficient political will.
