US Condemns RSF Drone Strike on UN Aid Convoy in Sudan

WASHINGTON —
The United States strongly condemned a drone attack Friday by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on a World Food Program (WFP) convoy in North Kordofan, which killed one person and injured three others.

US Statement on the Attack

US Senior Adviser for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos denounced the strike on X (formerly Twitter). He said, “The United States condemns the recent drone attack on a World Food Program convoy in North Kordofan transporting food to famine-stricken people which killed one and wounded many others.”

Boulos added, “Destroying food intended for people in need and targeting humanitarian workers is shocking. The Trump Administration has zero tolerance for this destruction of life and U.S.-funded assistance. We demand accountability and extend our condolences to all affected by these inexcusable events.”

Impact on Humanitarian Efforts

According to the Sudan Doctors Network, the convoy was struck by RSF drones in the Allah Karim area as it headed toward displaced communities in El Obeid, the state capital. The network described the attack as a “clear violation of international humanitarian law” and warned that such actions undermine efforts to deliver life-saving aid to civilians amid worsening humanitarian conditions.

The RSF has not responded to the incident.

Conflict Background

Sudan’s army and the RSF have been fighting since April 2023, leaving thousands dead and millions displaced. The RSF controls most of western Darfur, except parts of North Darfur still held by the army. The army dominates most areas of the remaining 13 states, including the capital, Khartoum.
