US Reportedly Warned Iran Over Fears for Negotiators’ Safety

Report: US Raised Concerns About Threats to Iranian Officials

US Reportedly Issued Warning to Iran Amid Concerns Over Safety of Nuclear Negotiators

The United States reportedly conveyed a warning to Iran earlier this year over concerns that senior Iranian officials involved in negotiations with Washington could face security threats, according to a report citing unnamed U.S. officials.

The report claims U.S. officials used indirect communication channels to alert Tehran after growing concerns that key Iranian negotiators might be at risk during ongoing diplomatic efforts. According to the officials, the warning reflected fears that prominent political figures participating in discussions with the United States could become potential targets.

Among those reportedly identified were Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who has played a leading role in contacts with Washington, and Abbas Araghchi, a senior diplomat closely associated with Iran’s negotiating team.

The officials emphasized that the warning was described as precautionary. As of Friday, there was no public indication that U.S. intelligence possessed evidence of a specific or imminent assassination plot against either official.

The report comes amid continuing regional tensions between Israel and Iran, where political and military rhetoric has remained highly confrontational. Statements from senior Israeli officials in recent months regarding Iran’s leadership have fueled speculation about the security environment surrounding diplomatic negotiations.

Earlier this year, Donald Trump acknowledged the sensitivity of negotiations with Iran and suggested that protecting the individuals involved was important to keeping diplomatic efforts alive. During public remarks, Trump declined to identify U.S. negotiating counterparts, indicating that revealing their identities could complicate the process.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s Office of Israel rejected separate media reports concerning the matter, dismissing claims published by international news outlets as inaccurate and denying the allegations.

Although neither Washington nor Tehran has publicly confirmed the reported warning, the episode underscores the fragile nature of diplomatic engagement amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Analysts say continued dialogue will likely depend on maintaining secure channels of communication and preventing further escalation between regional rivals.
