US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will travel to Brussels from April 2–4 to attend the NATO Foreign Ministers Meeting, as announced by the State Department on Monday.
During his visit, Rubio will focus on advocating for increased defense investment among NATO allies and reaffirming support for Ukraine’s security. Spokesperson Tammy Bruce emphasized that Rubio will stress the need for “greater Allied defense investment” and work towards achieving lasting peace in Ukraine.
Rubio will also participate in discussions on China’s growing strategic threat, particularly during a special NATO session that will include Indo-Pacific partners. The Secretary of State is expected to emphasize the shared security risks posed by China to both Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific regions.
Additionally, Rubio will engage in talks regarding preparations for the upcoming NATO summit in The Hague later this summer. The meeting in Brussels comes amid rising global tensions, with NATO allies calling for stronger collective defense commitments and more effective coordination on emerging security challenges.
