Uzbekistan to Export Green Energy to Europe

Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced on Tuesday that the country will soon sign a multilateral agreement to supply green energy to Europe. Speaking at the UN Climate Change Conference’s (COP29) World Leaders Summit in Baku, he emphasized that climate change is a major global threat, contributing to geopolitical tensions and worsening issues like food and energy security, as well as access to water and resources.

Mirziyoyev noted that Central Asia is feeling the impact of these challenges and reiterated Uzbekistan’s commitment to the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting temperature rise. The country aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 35% by 2030, with a longer-term target of carbon neutrality by 2050. He also highlighted Uzbekistan’s goal of increasing its green energy share to 40% and reaffirmed the country’s readiness for international cooperation on climate change and sustainable development.
