Valencia vs. Real Madrid Match Delayed Due to Floods

ISTANBUL — A highly anticipated La Liga match between Valencia and Real Madrid, set for this Saturday, has been postponed in light of devastating flash floods that have hit Spain, as confirmed by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on Thursday.

The RFEF stated that, following a request from LaLiga and the Liga F, all professional and non-professional matches scheduled in the Valencian Community for this weekend will not take place. This decision affects several games, including the match between Villarreal and Rayo Vallecano, along with three clashes in the Segunda Division: Levante against Malaga, Castellon versus Ferrol, and Eldense against Huesca. The women’s football fixtures, including Valencia Feminas versus Deportivo and Real Madrid against Levante, have also been postponed.

In a show of solidarity, La Liga announced that there would be a minute of silence observed during Primera and Segunda Division matches this weekend in memory of the victims of the storm. Spain has declared three days of mourning to honor those who have lost their lives.

The catastrophic storms have caused significant destruction across the country, resulting in at least 158 fatalities, with Valencia being the hardest-hit region. Search and rescue operations continue as local authorities assess the damage and provide assistance to affected communities. The storms have not only impacted sporting events but have also led to widespread emergency responses across the provinces of Cuenca, Albacete, and Malaga.

As Spain grapples with the aftermath of this unprecedented weather event, the postponement of these matches reflects the broader impact on society, emphasizing the need for community support and resilience in times of crisis.
