Iran Supertanker Evades US Blockade Oil Shipment Asia Route

A massive oil tanker linked to National Iranian Tanker Company has reportedly bypassed US monitoring systems while transporting crude valued at approximately $220 million.

According to maritime intelligence firm TankerTrackers, the very large crude carrier (VLCC), identified as “HUGE,” is carrying more than 1.9 million barrels of oil and has successfully navigated toward Asian waters without interception.

The vessel was last visibly tracked near Sri Lanka over a week ago and is now believed to be passing through the Lombok Strait, heading toward the Riau Archipelago.

Notably, the tanker has remained undetectable through standard maritime systems after ceasing its Automatic Identification System transmissions since March 20. Tracking data indicates that it initially departed the Strait of Malacca before altering its route.

The development highlights ongoing challenges faced by the US Navy in enforcing maritime monitoring and sanctions, particularly as vessels adopt sophisticated evasion tactics.

This incident underscores the evolving dynamics of global oil transportation, where geopolitical tensions continue to shape trade routes and enforcement capabilities.
