LAREDO, Texas – Border Patrol agents from the Laredo Sector’s Cotulla Station rescued 23 migrants found locked in a train compartment.
On July 9, around 7:00 a.m., Border Patrol agents on duty in Cotulla, Texas, discovered the undocumented migrants during a train inspection. The compartment was securely locked, leaving the migrants without any means of escape. Additional tools were required to safely extract all individuals from the compartment.
“During their routine duties – and with temperatures reaching nearly 100 degrees yesterday – Border Patrol agents rescued 23 migrants from a locked train compartment who were put in a life-threatening situation by callous human smuggling organizations who prioritize profit over all else. CBP’s message for anyone who is thinking of entering the United States unlawfully remains simple: don’t do it,” said Laredo Sector Chief, Jesse D. Munoz.
All 23 migrants, originating from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, were found to be in good health and did not require further medical attention. They were processed according to their respective immigration statuses.
Crossing the border unlawfully endangers lives. Smugglers often deceive migrants, claiming the borders are safe to cross, which is false. The borders are not open to irregular migration, and people should not attempt the hazardous journey.–News Desk
