LAREDO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers stationed at the World Trade Bridge have intercepted a significant shipment of hard narcotics valued at over $6.5 million.
Port Director Albert Flores of the Laredo Port of Entry emphasized the importance of CBP’s ongoing commitment to border security: “CBP prioritizes its border security mission on a daily basis. Our officers work tirelessly, utilizing every tool at their disposal to combat narcotic smuggling.”
The major seizure took place on Friday, August 9, when a 2023 Freightliner truck hauling a utility refrigerated trailer was flagged for secondary inspection. The vehicle was transporting a commercial shipment of flowers. During the inspection, which involved both a canine unit and non-intrusive imaging technology, CBP officers uncovered 712.54 pounds of methamphetamine concealed within the shipment. The street value of the seized narcotics is estimated at $6,551,910.
CBP has taken possession of the narcotics, and Homeland Security Investigations special agents are currently investigating the incident.–News Desk
