Israeli Prime Minister Appoints Maj.-Gen. David Zini as Next Head of National Security Agency

JERUSALEM — May 23, 2025 — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has officially decided to appoint Major General David Zini as the next Director of the Israeli Security Agency (ISA), also known internationally as Shin Bet.

The decision comes during heightened national security concerns, with multiple active fronts requiring strong and stable leadership within Israel’s intelligence community.

Maj.-Gen. Zini’s appointment will follow a two-stage legal process: first, a review by the Grunis Committee to evaluate his integrity and qualifications, and second, final approval by the Israeli government. Current ISA Director Ronen Bar is scheduled to step down on June 15, and officials have emphasized the need for a smooth transition to ensure uninterrupted national security operations.

The ISA, Israel’s domestic intelligence and security agency, plays a critical role in counterterrorism, cyber defense, and safeguarding state institutions. Zini’s leadership is expected to reinforce Israel’s strategic resilience at a crucial time.
