UN Security Council Extends Counter-Terrorism Body Mandate

The UN Security Council on Monday voted to renew the mandate of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) for an additional three years.
US-Drafted Resolution
The United States drafted the resolution, which extends CTED’s mandate until January 5, 2029. The council adopted the measure without any changes to the body’s current duties or priorities.
Unanimous Support
All 15 members of the Security Council voted in favor of the resolution, reflecting broad agreement on CTED’s ongoing role in supporting global counter-terrorism efforts.
US Reaction
Following the vote, US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce welcomed the decision. She said the revised renewal cycle aligns with the US position that UN special political missions should undergo more frequent oversight to ensure they remain focused and effective.
