Canadian Airlines Resume Flights to Mexico Amid Safety Concerns
WestJet, Air Canada, and other carriers have restarted flights to Mexico following a temporary suspension due to recent violence.
Air Canada, Air Transat, WestJet, and Porter Airlines are now flying to and from Puerto Vallarta, a popular resort city on Mexico’s west coast. WestJet has also added services to Guadalajara and Manzanillo.
The suspension began over the weekend after violence erupted following the death of a notorious cartel leader in a government operation. Residents and tourists in several regions were advised to shelter in place to stay safe.
More than 26,000 Canadians in Mexico have registered with Ottawa, and Global Affairs Canada continues to urge travelers to exercise a high level of caution.
Forcing AI Firms to Report Online Threats Remains Complex
Canada may consider laws requiring AI companies to notify police of online threats, but experts say the process is complicated.
Emily Laidlaw, Canada Research Chair in cybersecurity law at the University of Calgary, explained that each AI company currently has its own policy for reporting online threats. She noted that requiring firms to report every suspicion is “just not workable.”
Canada has explored similar legal measures in the past but has not implemented them. Any new legislation would require careful planning to balance security and practicality.
