Tehran Warns of Environmental Damage

ISTANBUL — Iran has accused Israel of violating international law after shelling fuel depots in the Iranian capital Tehran, warning that the attack could cause serious environmental and health consequences.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Monday that the strikes amount to “ecocide” and could lead to long-term environmental damage affecting future generations.

Concerns Over Health and Environmental Impact

Writing on the platform X, owned by Elon Musk, Araghchi said the attack threatens the health and well-being of local residents.

“Residents face long-term damage to their health and well-being,” he wrote. “Contamination of soil and groundwater could have generational impacts.”

He also urged the international community to hold Israel accountable for what he described as war crimes.

Conflict Escalates After Joint Strikes

Tensions in the region have intensified since Israel and the United States launched coordinated attacks on Iran on Feb. 28.

The strikes have killed around 1,300 people so far, including former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, according to Iranian authorities.

Iran Responds With Regional Strikes

In response, Iran has carried out drone and missile attacks targeting locations in Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf countries that host US military facilities.

As hostilities continue to escalate, international observers have expressed growing concern about the humanitarian and environmental consequences of the conflict.
