Suspect Arrested While Trying to Ignite Device

Istanbul — French anti-terrorism authorities have launched an investigation after police stopped an attempted attack on a Bank of America building in Paris, according to local media reports on Saturday.

Police arrested a suspect late Friday night as he tried to ignite a device placed outside the building. Officers intervened quickly and prevented the situation from escalating.

According to reports, the man held a lighter and attempted to set fire to a container filled with an unidentified liquid and a firecracker. He had placed the items near the bank entrance before police arrived.

Second Suspect Escapes Scene

Meanwhile, a second individual managed to flee and remains at large. Authorities have started a search operation to locate and apprehend the suspect.

Investigators revealed that the arrested individual claimed someone had dropped him off at the location. He also told police that he received recruitment instructions through Snapchat and was promised €600 for carrying out the act.

Terrorism Charges Under Investigation

Officials confirmed that the suspect stated he was born in 2009 and identified himself as being of Senegalese origin, according to BFMTV.

The National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office has opened a case involving several serious charges. These include attempted damage using fire or dangerous materials linked to a terrorist plan, the production of explosive or incendiary devices, and participation in a terrorist conspiracy.

Authorities Praise Swift Police Response

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez commended the rapid police action, stating that it helped prevent a potentially dangerous attack.

He emphasized that security forces remain on high alert and continue to monitor threats closely.
