San Diego Mosque Massacre Sparks Islamophobia Outrage

San Diego Mosque Shooting Triggers Nationwide Concern Over Rising Islamophobia

A deadly shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego has intensified concerns about growing religious hatred in the United States after two teenage gunmen opened fire inside the mosque, killing three people, including a security guard.

The tragic incident, now under investigation as a possible hate crime, drew a powerful response from Todd Gloria, who strongly condemned Islamophobia during a press briefing on Monday.

“Hate has no home in San Diego. Islamophobia has no home in San Diego,” Gloria declared while promising that authorities would pursue justice with full force.

According to police officials, the attackers — aged 17 and 18 — later died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds after fleeing the scene. Investigators revealed that one suspect’s mother had contacted police earlier in the day, warning officers that her son was missing, suicidal, and had taken multiple weapons from home.

Authorities said evidence recovered from the suspects included hateful writings and references to racial pride, further strengthening suspicions that the attack was motivated by extremist ideology.

San Diego Police Department Chief Scott Wahl confirmed that officers responding to the mosque shooting also discovered another victim nearby — a landscaper whose helmet reportedly saved his life after deflecting a bullet.

Community members described the attack as shocking and heartbreaking. Imam Taha Hassane emotionally addressed the media, urging Americans to confront rising intolerance and spread compassion instead of hatred.

“My community is mourning,” he said. “All of us are responsible for building a culture of love and tolerance.”

Residents noted that while the mosque had experienced isolated incidents in the past, including vandalism years ago, there had been no known direct threats before Monday’s bloodshed.

The horrific tragedy has once again ignited debate over hate crimes, religious extremism, and public safety across the United States as communities call for unity against anti-Muslim violence.
