US Intensifies Pressure Campaign Against Cuban Leadership
The United States has dramatically escalated pressure on Cuba after imposing fresh sanctions on several high-ranking officials, intelligence leaders, and security agencies linked to Havana’s communist government.
The sanctions, announced Monday by Marco Rubio, target key figures within Cuba’s political, military, and intelligence structure as part of what Washington described as a broader effort to confront growing national security threats.
Rubio said the measures are designed to hold Cuba’s leadership accountable while restricting support networks connected to the island’s ruling regime.
Among the sanctioned officials are Justice Minister Rosabel Gamon Verde, Energy and Mines Minister Vicente de la O Levy, Communications Minister Mayra Arevich Marin, and National Assembly President Juan Esteban Lazo Hernandez.
The crackdown also extends to Cuba’s feared Directorate of Intelligence (DGI), widely considered the country’s primary espionage agency. Several senior intelligence chiefs and military commanders were included in the sanctions package.
