Gunmen Attack Syrian Security Positions in Suwayda

Heavy Gunfire Hits Security Posts in Suwayda

Armed Groups Launch Attack on Syrian Security Positions in Suwayda

Armed assailants launched an attack on positions belonging to Syria’s Internal Security Forces in the southern province of Suwayda on Friday, escalating security concerns in the region.

According to local media citing security sources, the attackers used heavy machine guns to target security posts in the Tal Hadid area, west of Suwayda city.

Authorities have not yet reported any casualties or disclosed the extent of the damage caused by the assault. No official statement had been issued by Syrian authorities in the immediate aftermath of the attack.

The latest incident comes amid persistent instability in Suwayda, where security personnel and government positions have faced repeated attacks by armed factions in recent months.

Although a ceasefire has remained in place since July 2025 following deadly clashes between Bedouin tribes and Druze fighters, tensions have continued to simmer across the province.

Syrian officials have accused armed groups linked to Hikmat al-Hijri of repeatedly breaching the truce by targeting military and security positions, while maintaining that government forces remain committed to the ceasefire.

Damascus says it continues to facilitate humanitarian assistance and civilian evacuations while working to restore stability in the province.

Since the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s government in December 2024, Syrian authorities have intensified efforts to reestablish state control across the country, insisting they will not allow armed groups to undermine national security or fuel further unrest.
