Israeli Reservist Seriously Wounded During Fighting in Southern Lebanon

An Israeli reserve soldier sustained serious injuries during fighting in southern Lebanon, the Israeli military confirmed on Friday.

According to the army, the incident occurred on Thursday during what it described as a close-range confrontation in southern Lebanon. Military officials did not disclose additional details about the location of the clash or the circumstances surrounding the encounter.

The latest incident comes despite recent diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border.

Last week, Lebanon and Israel agreed to a US-backed framework intended to support a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory while helping ease cross-border hostilities.

However, Israel has delayed its planned withdrawal from two designated pilot areas in southern Lebanon, stating that the move will only proceed once a joint monitoring mechanism with Lebanese authorities is established.

The continued military presence has added uncertainty to efforts aimed at implementing the agreement and stabilizing the border region.

The conflict has taken a heavy humanitarian toll since Israel launched its military campaign in Lebanon on March 2. Lebanese health officials say thousands of people have been killed and injured, while more than one million residents have been displaced by the fighting.

The latest exchange underscores the fragile security situation despite ongoing diplomatic initiatives aimed at preventing further escalation.
