Belgian Navy Plans 1000 New Recruits

Belgium Expands Navy With Major Hiring Drive

Belgian Navy Launches Recruitment Drive to Support Major Fleet Expansion

Belgium’s navy plans to recruit 1,000 new personnel over the next four years as part of an ambitious strategy to significantly expand its maritime capabilities by 2033.

Speaking to Belgian broadcaster RTL, Navy Chief Adm. Tanguy Botman said the recruitment campaign is essential to support the country’s long-term defense modernization plans.

The Belgian Navy currently operates a fleet of five vessels staffed by approximately 1,300 sailors. Under the government’s strategic defense vision, the fleet is expected to grow to 13 ships over the coming years, creating a greater demand for trained naval personnel.

Botman said the objective is to build a modern, resilient and highly capable naval force that can meet future operational requirements.

To attract new talent, the navy is strengthening partnerships with educational institutions and public employment organizations, including Forem and Actiris. The initiative is designed to encourage more young people to consider careers in the armed forces by offering professional training, practical experience and long-term career opportunities at sea.

Officials believe the recruitment campaign will play a key role in supporting Belgium’s broader defense modernization efforts while ensuring the navy has the skilled workforce needed to operate its expanded fleet.
