Trump Presses Iran Nuclear Deal

Trump Keeps Military Option Open

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump reaffirmed his administration’s preference for a diplomatic nuclear agreement with Iran on Monday, while cautioning that military action remains an option if negotiations fail.

Speaking at the White House, Trump said Washington is determined to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons, emphasizing that diplomacy is the preferred path but warning the US is prepared to act if necessary. He maintained that the United States possesses the capability to target Iran’s critical infrastructure, though he expressed hope that such measures would not be required.

Trump also dismissed speculation about pursuing regime change in Iran, saying the administration’s primary objective is to ensure the country never acquires a nuclear weapon.

Later, during a Rose Garden luncheon, Trump claimed recent US military operations had significantly weakened Iran’s military capabilities and urged Tehran to return to the negotiating table. He expressed confidence that Iran is eager to reach an agreement, insisting the country must accept a deal that permanently addresses concerns over its nuclear program.

The remarks came days after indirect US-Iran negotiations ended without a public breakthrough, despite a 60-day ceasefire intended to create room for renewed diplomatic efforts following months of regional tensions.
