US President Donald Trump on Wednesday described CIA Director John Ratcliffe’s recent trip to Moscow as a “semi-routine” visit, rejecting reports that it was connected to possible Russian military threats against NATO countries or the UK.
Speaking to political commentator Glenn Beck, Trump dismissed speculation that Russia might be testing the resolve of Western allies or considering an attack on Britain. He praised Ratcliffe and said the CIA chief’s visit was not related to such concerns.
Trump suggested that the Moscow trip could nevertheless produce developments, saying his administration was working hard to bring the Russia-Ukraine war to an end. He also claimed that both Moscow and Kyiv appeared willing to reach a settlement.
The Kremlin confirmed that Ratcliffe’s visit to Moscow on Tuesday involved meetings between security officials. It was reportedly the first visit by a CIA director to the Russian capital since 2021.
