American Airlines Nears Return of US Venezuela Flights
Service expected to resume by late April
WASHINGTON: American Airlines is moving closer to restoring direct flights between the United States and Venezuela after years of suspension.
The airline confirmed that it is working actively with regulators in both countries to secure final approvals. Once authorities complete all safety checks and permissions, the company plans to restart operations.
Daily Miami Caracas route planned
According to the airline, it aims to launch daily nonstop flights between Miami and Caracas as early as April 30.
Moreover, its regional subsidiary, Envoy Air, will operate the route using Embraer 175 aircraft. This step reflects the airline’s gradual return to the Venezuelan market.
Progress with government authorities
Meanwhile, company officials expressed optimism about the ongoing coordination with both governments. Nate Gatten, a senior executive, stated that the airline feels encouraged by the steady progress made during discussions.
In addition, the airline emphasized its commitment to completing all regulatory and security requirements before launching the service.
Return after years of suspension
Notably, American Airlines first began operations in Venezuela in 1987. Over time, it became the largest US carrier in the country. However, the airline suspended its services in 2019 due to safety and regulatory concerns.
Now, with approvals advancing and conditions improving, the airline is preparing to reconnect the two countries through direct air travel.
