Canada and Ireland have agreed to strengthen cooperation across trade, investment, security, and technology following high-level talks between Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin in Dublin.
Both governments announced a new strategic framework aimed at enhancing economic resilience, improving long-term competitiveness, and advancing shared strategic priorities. The agreement is expected to further align bilateral relations at a time when Ireland prepares to assume the presidency of the Council of the European Union on July 1.
Under the new partnership, the two countries committed to expanding trade flows, deepening investment ties, and improving coordination on supply chain security. They also reaffirmed support for the implementation of the Canada–EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).
In addition, Canada and Ireland agreed to establish annual diplomatic consultations and increase defence cooperation between the Canadian Armed Forces and the Irish Defence Forces, including joint maritime security training initiatives.
The framework also highlights collaboration in emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, with both sides emphasizing the development of trustworthy AI systems aligned with democratic values.
The two leaders further reiterated their support for Ukraine and expressed continued commitment to peace and stability efforts in the Middle East, describing the agreement as a practical and forward-looking step to deepen bilateral relations.
