Canada Backs U.S. Move Against Iran’s Nuclear Program, Says Carney

Prime Minister Mark Carney has voiced support for the United States’ efforts to dismantle Iran’s nuclear program, while confirming that Canada is not involved in military operations.

Speaking at the Canada-India Growth and Investment Forum in Mumbai, Carney stated that Canada supports actions aimed at preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He emphasized that such measures are necessary to protect international peace and security.

Canada Not Involved in Military Action

Although Canada supports the objective of limiting Iran’s nuclear ambitions, Carney clarified that the country is not taking part in the military campaign. He stressed that Ottawa was neither involved in planning nor in the military buildup.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that the United States, alongside Israel, carried out strikes on Iran. Reports indicate that one of the initial strikes occurred near the offices of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

U.S. Justifies Military Strikes

Shortly after the attack began, Trump released a video statement explaining that the mission aimed to protect the American people by removing what he described as immediate threats from Iran’s leadership.

He reiterated that his administration has consistently opposed Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons. Furthermore, he claimed that Tehran continues to expand its nuclear program and develop long-range missiles capable of reaching the United States.

In addition, Trump urged the Iranian public to take control of their government, suggesting that change lies in their hands.

Canada’s Position on Iran

Carney described the Islamic Republic of Iran as a major source of instability in the Middle East. He also criticized Iran’s human rights record and firmly stated that the country must never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.

Despite supporting the goal of halting Iran’s nuclear program, Canada has chosen not to participate directly in military operations.
