Canadians Reduce U.S. Travel Flights Cut

U.S. Travel Decline Hits Canadian Airlines

Canadians Avoid U.S. Travel as Air Transat Cancels Florida Flights

Air Transat Halts Summer Service to Florida

Air Transat has announced it will cancel all flights to Florida for the 2026 summer season, citing declining demand from Canadian travelers. The airline had already planned to reduce flights this spring. Florida remains a popular destination, particularly for Quebec residents.

The cancellations reflect a broader trend of Canadians reducing travel to the United States amid deteriorating Canada-U.S. relations since President Donald Trump began his second term.

Travelers Adjust Plans

Some Canadian travelers expressed disappointment but said they are exploring alternative destinations. One Quebec resident said, “I’m thinking about other options. I would choose another destination for the moment, but I would love to visit Florida.”

Others remained optimistic that travel patterns might change. A traveler planning a visit to Minnesota added, “People will find solutions and change their mind. If you have plans to go, you’ll go.”

Wider Impact on Airlines

Air Transat is not the only carrier adjusting to the decline in U.S. travel. Air Canada announced reductions in U.S. flights, while WestJet confirmed it will suspend service to 10 U.S. cities this summer due to lower demand.

The trend signals that Canadian travelers are increasingly cautious about visiting the U.S., prompting airlines to revise schedules and cut routes for the peak travel season.
