Morocco Launches $2B Railway Program in Casablanca

King Mohammed VI Launches $2B Railway Project in Casablanca

On September 24, King Mohammed VI inaugurated a major railway project in Casablanca worth 20 billion dirhams (about €1.8 billion). The project aims to modernize the city’s transport system and improve connectivity for residents.

The plan includes three new state-of-the-art stations, ten new commuter train stations, and the renovation of five existing stations. Authorities say the upgraded network will make commuting faster, reduce traffic congestion, and provide safer, more efficient travel for passengers.

The project also introduces modern technology to streamline train operations and enhance the passenger experience. The new stations are designed for higher capacity while prioritizing safety, comfort, and accessibility.

King Mohammed VI highlighted that this railway program reflects Morocco’s long-term commitment to infrastructure development and economic growth. The upgraded network will connect neighborhoods, business districts, and urban hubs, creating job opportunities and attracting investment.

Officials emphasized the environmental benefits of the initiative. By encouraging the use of public transport and reducing reliance on private vehicles, the project aims to lower carbon emissions and support Casablanca’s sustainability goals.

Construction has already begun, and city planners hope the project will serve as a model for future transit developments across Morocco. Residents and commuters are optimistic about a faster, safer, and more connected urban transport system that meets the needs of a growing population.
