Kılıçdaroğlu Stresses Legal Process Party Leadership Rules

Türkiye’s main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has stated that the party will proceed with holding a convention once a court-imposed injunction is lifted, emphasizing that all steps must remain within legal procedures.

Speaking to reporters, Kılıçdaroğlu said a party convention is essential for internal functioning and confirmed that it will take place after the legal restriction is removed. He added that there is currently an injunction in place, but once it is lifted, the process will move forward without issue.

He noted that the party may also consult legal experts to determine the quickest and most appropriate way to organize the convention, including reviewing the timing after any final decision from higher courts.

Responding to proposals suggesting leadership selection through a large member vote, Kılıçdaroğlu stressed that party rules require leaders to be elected through formal conventions and that these procedures cannot be bypassed.
